Winter 2005/Spring 2006 Newsletter

Welcome to Tom Moore Landscaping "news" section! We are extremely proud to be launching this, our very first website. Customers can now follow our progress as we continue to build up our portfolio and keep you informed of any changes within the company. We would also love to hear from previous customers to know how their gardens are coming along.

Now is the Time!

With Christmas just out of the way and the grey January skies ahead of us, the garden is probably the last thing on your mind right now. It is however the most sensible time to have any construction work carried out be it decking, paving or a complete change over in the garden. Plants are at their most dormant at this time of year so the effects of minor or major construction work are kept to a minimum. The garden will then be ready to enjoy when the warmer weather comes around again.

New Ideas...

Short of space in your garden but looking to make more of your entertainment area? Looking for more seating but tired of the traditional table and chair sets? Why not consider a contemporary rendered planter with built in seats?

Relax while your favourite plants and grasses gently sway in the breeze. Call us for a free quote and we will transform your garden into a workable and usable outdoor space!

Get Out There!

There are several things to be keeping busy with in the garden at this time of year. Traditionally we had to worry about protecting the less hardy shrubs from the winter frosts; the seasons are however changing, and we don't have to face the biting winters of years gone by (despite this year's hype!). We still need to keep an eye on plants preferring warmer climates however, such as the ferns and palms, and we can protect these by wrapping them in fleece.

The main problem with our winters these days is the increasing levels of rainfall. One thing we can do at this time of year is to deal with any drainage problems in the lawn. Simply by pushing a fork through to the soil and rocking it back and forth will help aerate the lawn. Another method is to make deep hollow channels in the soil and then fill with grit.

Now is also a good time to trim back any garden grasses. By cutting back the old, we make space for the new green shoots to come through. If you leave this job too late, you can end up cutting some of the new shoots away by accident.

It's also important to keep control of the fallen leaves; sweep and lift these as regularly as you can to prevent them from harbouring disease.
