Autumn/Winter 2007 Newsletter

Autumn is coming, its time to...

Get out into the garden and start tidying up for winter! Dead head your roses by cutting the flowers just above the top leaf on the stem. Trim lavender bushes by removing old blooms and any visible shoot tips. Pay some extra attention to your hanging baskets and pots in order to lengthen their colour and appeal right through the autumn months. Water daily, pick over any dead foliage and leaf and keep on top of any unwelcome pests.

Now is also the time to think about your borders and pots for the Spring. Plant up tulip bulbs and others such as daffodils, irises and hyacinths. While shopping for your daffs, look out for indoor bulbs which flower as early as Christmas. Narcissus "Fortune", N "Cragford" and "Golden Harvest" are worth considering.

Another brick in the wall...

The common house brick may not seem the most exciting building material available but it does indeed have many uses. Many of our customers are keen for their new gardens to blend in with their house, i.e. it can look a little confusing to combine a traditional cottage garden, built using old style York stone, with a modern brick built property. What we do is try to incorporate aspects of the house design into the design and build of the garden whilst ultimately giving the customer what they want.

Bricks can be used as fantastic edging materials. In some of our recent jobs we have used the common red house brick to edge ponds, lawns, patios... and we have also built walls! Have a look at some of these pictures for inspiring ideas!

True Blue...

Anyone with a keen eye may have noticed that we have changed our company colour scheme this last summer. We have turned our back on the more traditional "green" colour associated with gardening, and have instead opted for a very attractive pale blue colour. You may have seen Tom driving around Sheffield in his pale blue VW van with white sign writing. Nick, on the other hand, can be seen in his white Ford with complimentary light blue signage. The new uniforms also boast the company name in a stunning light blue. Who said you can't be stylish when working in the garden? As you read this newsletter, please appreciate the stunning newly changed blue backdrop!
